That Voice. You Know That Voice: Self Doubt.

”I’m not cut out for this”

Have you ever said this to yourself? Ballet, life or otherwise?

Last night around 3am, I said this to myself.  I couldn’t sleep. I was tossing and turning, lost in thought.

That voice (you know the one) said:

You’re not cut out for this.

You’re not cut out for the stress and anxiety of running a business.

The responsibility. The competition. The marathon sprint to make it though COVID.

It’s for stronger people.

Wiser people.

Smarter people.

Older people.

Men.

Better teachers, better dancers, better people.

People with more experience.

People who know how to control their emotions.

Not you. You should just quit and do something else.

That voice really has the capacity to lay it on thick.

Then I said to myself, hey, wait a sec. You tell your dancers all the time to stop saying this to themselves about ballet, and to just keep going one step at a time. Should I offer myself the same kindness?

Maybe it’s hard right now, but if I want it, then I should fight to BECOME cut out for it.

Keep going. Keep pushing through. With every step, the wisdom, the smarts, and the experience to be able to keep doing it will build.

Maybe today feels impossible, but every day that passes without giving up is another “impossible” day that became “possible”
